🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 4/5 - "Some excellent songs with some talnted singers but leaves something to be desired in the plot"

I've spoken to a bunch of people since I've since Shucked at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre and boy do I have opinions. Opinions that are shared by most of the people I've spoken to. We're gonna go through them one by one.

Firstly, I was lukewarm on the production until halfway through Act 1, when there are two songs next to each other which are, frankly, incredible. They're both character solos and exhibit a ludicrous amount of on-stage charisma and talent. (It's Somebody Will [Ben Joyce] and Independantly Owned [Georgina Onuorah]). It's clearly not lost on the producers since these songs are used a lot in the production material. Sadly once these songs are gone we never quite reach these musical heights again. (Both of these songs are available on youtube and I encourage you to look them up!)

Secondly. The humour is excellent. Peanut [Keith Ramsay] isn't the only character to have an absurd amount of stupid one-line dad jokes but he certainly gets most of them! In fact the one liners in this show are some of the most hilarious I've seen, I think one particularly dirty joke got a full thirty seconds of laughter!

That's another thing - this play is full of dirty jokes. Not rude or offensive, just, schoolboy level dirty jokes, which I think really works in its favour.

Thirdly, The environment. Shucked works really well for being in an open air theatre! it feels like you're in Cobb County! It uses some environmental jokes and uses the grounds sometimes.

Okay, those were the unanimous opinions, now come my own personal opinions:

1b) It's a classic of musicals but Act II doesn't have any songs that match Act I in energy. Go firgure.

Fourthly, The Storytellers are excellent, in particular I'd like to emphasise Storyteller 2 (Steven Webb). Who has almost as many silly one-liners as Peanut, but with more physical humour!
